RCB PhD Programme in Biotechnology

RCB offers doctoral programme in Biotechnology to students holding a postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in any field of science, medicine or technology and having an interest to work at the interface of multiple disciplines in the areas related (but not limited) to structural biology, molecular medicine, infectious disease biology, agricultural biotechnology, systems and synthetic biology, cancer & cell biology.

 

The PhD programme consists of the following two components:
(i) course work 
(ii) research work leading to the submission of a thesis

The duration of the PhD Programme is 3 years to a maximum of 6 years including the course work.

An individual-specific Student Advisory Committee (SAC) constituted by the Executive Director of the Regional Centre shall provide regular mentoring, supervision and guidance to each Doctor of Philosophy student in the Regional Centre. The individual Student Advisory Committee shall meet at least once in each academic year and submit its report on the progress of the student concerned to the respective Academic Committee.

Minimum credit requirement for successful completion of coursework is 12 credits.

Fellowship

The students admitted to the programme will have to avail the fellowship for which they have qualified as per the rules of the funding agency. RCB will have no financial liability regarding the same.

Caution money (Rs. 5000; refundable) is payable at the time of admission. Hostel Security Deposit of Rs. 5000 (if applicable).

PhD thesis examination fee (Rs. 10,000) is payable at the time of PhD thesis submission. Hostel electricity charges are as per the installed meter, and the cooperative mess charges are to be paid as per actual.

The fee may be revised during the course as per the provisions in the RCB Ordinance.

Admission Process

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Qualifications: 4-year Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from a recognised institution in any area of science and technology, or a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree, or an equivalent degree.
  2. Qualifying Marks: 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in the qualifying degree examination (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/differently-abled allowed as per the GoI norms).
  3. No of seats: 17
  4. Reservation of seats: As per the GoI guidelines.
  5. In addition to the above, candidates should have qualified for any of the following examinations and hold a valid fellowship offer at the time of the interview: 
    1.  Joint CSIR-UGC test for Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR/UGC JRF)
    2. DBT Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF)
    3. ICMR Junior Research Fellowship (ICMR-JRF)
    4. Any other nationally competitive fellowship offered by the Government of India. Your candidature is contingent upon           holding a valid fellowship tenable for a period of 5 years.

Selection Process

The application shall be submitted as per link given below. Subsequently, application fee of Rs.500/-, if applicable is to be submitted by the applicant before the due date. SC/ST/PwD/EWS candidates are exempted from payment of application fee. The applications received before the due date will be scrutinized for eligibility. Eligible candidates will be called for a written test and/or interview at RCB, Faridabad.

Providing false/ incorrect information in the application form or non-possession of essential qualifications detected at any stage of the selection process will lead to disqualification of the candidate. The decision of the Competent Authority at RCB shall be final and binding in this regard.

Number of seats is not fixed and varies each session ranging from 10 - 20.
